POSITION TITLE: Senior Academic Counselor – Mental Health Counseling, (Part-time)

DEPARTMENT: Wraparound Services/Student Services and Enrollment Management

PRIMARY LOCATION: Taunton, with occasional travel to all Bristol campus locations.

REPORTS TO: Director, Wraparound Services

POSITION STATUS: This is an MCCC/MTA part-time (18.5 hours weekly), Grade 6 unit non-benefitted position, some nights and weekends required.

SALARY: $33.95 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience in accordance with the MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Senior Academic Counselor for Mental Health Counseling is responsible for supporting student mental health across all Bristol locations by providing short-term psychological counseling and crisis intervention services, conducting educational programming, and assisting in the development and delivery of comprehensive student mental health support services. This position performs mental health counseling with students, offers consultation and training services to faculty and staff, and engages in promotion of services to students. This position works collaboratively within Wraparound Services, as well as others in the College community.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide short-term mental health counseling services to students, including establishing goals, designing and implementing services, and making referrals to external service providers for ongoing counseling support.
• Conduct programs and workshops to provide training and education to students, faculty, and staff.
• Counsel students in support of their personal/psychological growth and development.
• Respond to mental health emergencies and provide crisis intervention services.
• Maintain accurate records in compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
• Identify and build partnerships with local agencies/community resources as sources of education and referral for Bristol students. Consult with and make referrals to local providers to support longer-term counseling needs.
• Serve as a confidential resource and support person for students participating in complaints and/or investigations under the College’s Policy on Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity & Diversity and federal Title IX regulations.
• Maintain professional knowledge in student mental health counseling trends and practices.
• Support the Director with area assessment activities including gathering data, preparing reports, and providing recommendations.

Job Requirements:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

• Minimum of a Master’s degree in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, social work, or closely related field.*
• Minimum ten (10) years experience that includes psychological counseling, psycho-therapy services, crisis intervention, or social work.*
• *An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.
• Mental Health Counseling license (LMHC) or Independent Clinical Social Worker license (LICSW) valid in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, or the ability to obtain licensure within 90 days of hire.
• Demonstrated ability to inform and guide others by applying principles of professional counseling.
• Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience working in higher education with college students, preferably at a community college.
• Experience working in a college counseling center or similar environment.
• Demonstrated experience in case management and crisis intervention.
• Experience working with one or more of the following software packages: Ellucian Banner, Degree Works, Maxient, Slate, Blackboard, Argos, and EAB/Navigate.
• Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.
