Job Description:

POSITION TITLE: NECHE Student Committee Member (part-time; up to 5 positions available)

DEPARTMENT: Academic Affairs

REPORTS TO: NECHE Steering Committee Co-Chair

STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) is the accrediting body for Bristol Community College, and, every ten years, the college examines its practices and policies in a Self-Study report to demonstrate that reaccreditation is warranted. This college-wide effort involves all constituents: faculty, staff, administration, and students.

The Self-Study report is broken down into nine standards, with titles such as “Teaching, Learning, and Scholarship” and “Planning and Governance.” A committee is tasked with working on each standard–on each portion of the Self-Study–and the make-up of that group aligns with what is being examined. NECHE Student Committee Members will engage with faculty and staff in this work for the report that is due in 2024. The student perspective is vital to assess Bristol’s efforts at achieving each standard.

NECHE Student Committee Members will attend biweekly meetings for their assigned committee, beginning September 2022 through the Spring of 2023. The Student Committee Member would have similar duties as staff and faculty committee members, which include but are not limited to: attending meetings, engaging in discussion during and between meetings, reviewing and gathering materials in preparation for meetings, and developing/sharing ideas. Meetings are an hour in length and will be conducted online.

• Attend, and participate in, bi-weekly meetings of the assigned Standard Committee.

• Review and analyze materials, and generate feedback/ideas for sharing at bi-weekly meetings.

• Submit electronic timesheet in Self Service Time & Attendance (SSTA) weekly, or paper timesheet, if required for payroll purposes.

• Focus on the Commonwealth’s Equity Agenda by applying related best practices throughout all job functions.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, all required qualifications must be met by date of hire.

• Must be a currently enrolled Bristol Community College student in good academic and conduct standing.

• Ability to communicate effectively in a professional setting.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications.

• Must have reliable access to a computer with online access for attending virtual meetings and reviewing materials.

• As of January 2022, candidates for employment should be aware that Community College students, faculty, and staff are required to be fully vaccinated. Accordingly, initial employment is dependent upon receipt and verification of full vaccination status records; details of how to fulfill vaccine record verification requirements will be provided during the hire and onboarding process.

• Completion of at least one semester at Bristol.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Teams.

• Familiarity with Bristol’s student resources.

• Ability to communicate in a language in addition to English.

SALARY: $15.50 per hour.

ANTICIPATED START DATE/DURATION: Work to begin in September 2022 and continue through the Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 semesters.
