NAACP Branch Elections (11/19/2020)

The NAACP Providence Branch will hold an election of officers on Thursday, November 19, 2020. To run for office, you must be a member in good standing no later than May 1st. You must live and/or work within the jurisdiction of the Branch.

Members who plan to run for office, must submit a completed Candidate consent form and Nominating petition. The Branch shall receive the completed form by October 15, 2020.

Submit Consent Form Online: Prospective candidates could submit their consent form electronically at https://form.jotform.com/202580480999164. Please note that you must receive permission from at least three (3) members to provide electronic signatures for your nomination petition and indicate their membership number and date that the member agreed to support your candidacy.

Submit by Email: Prospective candidates could either request a printed copy by phone by calling the branch no later than October 1, 2020; or download the PDF version from https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mtubip2iYyi70U7lanwA82A4ABbL7I85/view. Prospective candidates should then scan a copy and submit it directly by email to naacpprovidence@gmail.com.

Submit by Mail: Alternatively you can request the forms from the branch or download the forms at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mtubip2iYyi70U7lanwA82A4ABbL7I85/view, fill out, and mail it to the address below. The branch must receive the form no later than October 15, 2020.

Jim Vincent Visits Central Falls High School

Jim Vincent visited the English class of teachers Jordana Ruggeri and Marcela Garces at Central Falls High School. The class is reading “The Hate U Give” and it has ignited so many quality and in depth discussions about social justice, media injustice and themes of racism, code switching, double consciousness, and the power of words and our environment. Mr. Vincent was invited to talk about his work which prompted many students to be interested in starting a chapter of the NAACP at CFHS.

Hopefully the power of the novel and Mr. Vincent’s message will ignite students to become voices rather than echoes.
